SafeSport & background-check tracking (US clubs)

In the US, safeguarding is SafeSport abuse-prevention training plus background checks for adults working with minors, required through your governing body — not a single national certificate. In Paak you record each one as a qualification with its own expiry date, and Paak alerts you before it lapses.

How US safeguarding works

The federal SafeSport Act regime flows from your national governing body down to the club: adults who work with minors complete SafeSport training and pass a background check, on the schedule your NGB (or league/state) sets. Some states add their own club-level duties — California and Pennsylvania notably require fingerprint-based checks for staff and regular volunteers. Your governing body's requirements are the authority; Paak is where you keep the club's own record of who has what, and until when.

Track it in Paak

  1. In Settings → Qualification types, create the entries your club needs — for example « SafeSport Training » and « Background Check » — each with its validity period.
  2. On each coach or volunteer's contact page, add the qualification with its completion and expiry dates (as shown by your NGB's system).
  3. The Qualifications page shows everyone's status at a glance — valid, expiring soon, expired.

Expiry reminders

  • All plans — expiring and expired qualifications are flagged on your dashboard and on the member's page.
  • Paak One and Pro — club admins also receive email reminders before expiry, so a lapsed check never surprises you mid-season.

What Paak does not do

  • Paak does not run background checks and has no connection to SafeSport, NCSI, or any screening provider.
  • Paak verifies and certifies nothing — you record the outcome and dates your governing body's system shows you.
  • Recording a qualification in Paak does not by itself satisfy any NGB, state, or insurer requirement — it keeps your club's own tracking honest and current.

FAQ

Where do the actual SafeSport training and background checks happen?
Through your governing body's own process (most NGBs use the U.S. Center for SafeSport's training and a designated screening provider). Paak only records the result and its expiry date.
My state has extra requirements — does Paak handle them?
Requirements vary by state (California and Pennsylvania are the strictest for youth organizations). Create a qualification type per requirement and track it the same way — but confirm the requirements themselves with your governing body or counsel.
Is this the same as the French « honorabilité » feature?
No. The French module automates a France-specific federation declaration and doesn't apply to US clubs. US clubs use the general qualification tracking described here.
