The software that REALLY speaks Swiss basketball
Paak already manages your members, CHF and TWINT payments, and teams. For Swiss Basketball, it goes further: 5v5 scoring under FIBA rules, FTEM + PISTE Talent Cards from Swiss Olympic, Aktive licences across 9 regional associations. Swiss basketball has no officially endorsed club tool today — Paak is the open opportunity.
Basketplan + Paak — complementary, not competing
Swiss Basketball runs its own tools: Basketplan (ORCA Systems, Zurich, integrated on swiss.basketball) for licence issuance, championship registration (NLA, NLB, 1. Liga, regional leagues across 9 regional associations), referee management and official rankings; FIBA LiveStats by Genius Sports as the electronic match sheet in NLA/NLB. You keep both. Paak does not try to replace them — we cover what these tools don't: multi-sport, CHF/TWINT payments outside the licence, sponsors, tactical live scoring, individual performance, volunteers.
Stays in Basketplan
Licence issuance (CHF 40 per player in 2024-25), championship entry, referee management, official rankings. Official Swiss Basketball tool, you keep it as is.
Stays in FIBA LiveStats
Mandatory electronic match sheet in NLA/NLB by Genius Sports. Live entry of the official Swiss Basketball record. Paak does not replace it — it consolidates internal club statistics in parallel for individual performance. At lower levels, simplified reporting via Basketplan is still used; Paak can serve as digital club support.
What Paak adds
Multi-sport (a club with basketball + volleyball + judo sections has one platform), Mollie payments in CHF + TWINT outside the licence (tournaments, camps, training courses, sponsors), tactical live scoring (positions, lineups), individual performance, volunteers, training planning.
No endorsed club tool in CH
Paak audit 2026: no third-party club management tool officially endorsed by Swiss Basketball. No Localclubs, no Fairgate-style competitor. It's the clearest opportunity for Paak in Switzerland — no historical partner to displace.
On APIs: Swiss Basketball does not publish a public REST API today (audit 2026-05-07). Paak operates standalone: no automatic licence sync from Basketplan, but CSV import from the export. A technical partnership with ORCA Systems for a native connector is to be explored post-pilot.
Basketball has its own mechanics (FIBA)
Swiss Basketball applies the FIBA rule set unchanged. Here are the four points a multi-sport software must know by default.
5v5, 4 quarters of 10 min
Five players per team on the court. Match in 4 quarters of 10 minutes (FIBA, vs 12 min NBA). Overtime of 5 minutes if tied.
3 basket types, 3 values
2-point basket (inside play), 3-point basket (beyond the line), free throw at 1 point. Paak records every shot with shooter and value.
Fouls: auto-ejection at 5
FIBA limits each player to 5 personal fouls before final ejection. Technical, unsportsmanlike, disqualifying foul with progression. Paak tracks the exact count per player and triggers the alert.
FTEM + PISTE (Swiss Olympic)
Swiss Basketball aligns with the FTEM framework (Foundations / Talent / Elite / Mastery) and the PISTE Talent Ranking from Swiss Olympic, which issues Talent Cards (cantonal / regional / national). Paak tracks these labels at the athlete profile.
Live scoring: 2s, 3s, free throws
During the match, one click adds a basket or a foul. Paak distinguishes values and attributes each action to the right player. After the match, every player has their full stat line. Paak's internal stats live in parallel with FIBA LiveStats (which remains the official record in NLA/NLB).
| Action | Value | Tracked in Paak |
|---|---|---|
| 2-point basket | 2 pts | Shooter, assist provider, zone (paint, mid-range) |
| 3-point basket | 3 pts | Shooter, % success rate per shooter. Specialty of guards. |
| Free throw | 1 pt | Shooter, % success rate. Key end-of-game parameter. |
| Offensive rebound | — | Player, mostly center/power forward. |
| Defensive rebound | — | Player, mainly center. |
| Assist | — | Passer, resulting basket. Point guard stats. |
| Block | — | Blocker, attacked player. Specialty of center. |
| Steal | — | Stealer, conversion in transition. |
| Turnover | − | Turnover attributed to the player. |
Fouls: progression + automatic ejection
FIBA applies 5 fouls per player before final ejection. Paak counts exactly and triggers the ejection alert.
| Foul | Consequence |
|---|---|
| Personal (P) | Counts toward the 5-foul limit. Free throws if team bonus reached. |
| Technical (T) | Foul without contact (protest, gesture). 1 free throw + opponent possession. |
| Unsportsmanlike (U) | Excessive gesture. 2 free throws + possession. Counts as P. |
| Disqualifying (D) | Violent or repeated gesture. Player ejected immediately. |
| 5th foul | Final automatic ejection from the match. Paak alerts the coach. |
The 5 basketball positions
Universal FIBA positions, identical at Swiss Basketball level. Each position has its typical statistics.
Age categories and Talent pathway
Swiss Basketball uses the U-XX system aligned with FIBA standards, plus the federal Talent pathway.
U10 — U12 (Mini-Basket)
Mini categories, adapted game forms. First basketball discovery.
U13 (Detection) — U14 (Selection)
Beginning of the cantonal detection / selection pathway. First PISTE Talent Cards possible.
U16 — U18 — U20
Extended junior competitions. Regional and national Talent Cards accessible.
Senior (20+)
Aktive. League ladder NLA > NLB > 1. Liga > regional leagues (9 regional associations).
FTEM (Foundations / Talent / Elite / Mastery)
Swiss Olympic development framework. Paak tracks the FTEM level at the athlete profile as a season-tracked label.
PISTE Talent Cards
Talent classification system feeding the Swiss Olympic Talent Cards (cantonal / regional / national). Paak tracks the current card and its level.

Frequently asked questions
Does Paak handle the FIBA Swiss Basketball format?
Yes. 5v5, 4 quarters of 10 minutes, values 2/3/1 (FIBA applied unchanged by Swiss Basketball). The U10 to U20 + Senior categories attach automatically to the season.
Is the automatic ejection at 5 fouls triggered?
Yes. Each personal foul is timestamped and attributed to the player. The counter automatically triggers a final ejection alert at the 5th foul.
Are the FTEM framework and PISTE ranking integrated?
Tracked as label fields at the athlete profile in Paak (current FTEM level, current PISTE Talent Card). Automatic progression logic (Talent Card upgrade) remains manual today — native integration is on the roadmap.
Does Paak replace Basketplan?
No. Basketplan (ORCA Systems, Zurich) remains the Swiss Basketball federation tool for licences, championship registration, and official rankings. FIBA LiveStats remains the match sheet in NLA/NLB. Paak is complementary: multi-sport, CHF/TWINT payments outside the licence, sponsors, tactical club scoring, individual performance. Bridge with Basketplan: CSV import. No public API today — a technical partnership with ORCA Systems remains to be explored.
Why is Paak the clearest opportunity for Swiss basketball?
Paak audit 2026: no third-party club management tool is officially endorsed by Swiss Basketball for the ~185 clubs / ~15,000 licensed players. No Localclubs (which is Swiss Volley's partner), no Fairgate-style competitor, no incumbent. It's a rare opportunity: no historical partner to displace.
Is a medical certificate required?
No, not at Swiss Basketball federation level. Paak respects this difference: requiresMedicalCert is false for Switzerland. An individual club can locally require a certificate; Paak then allows it to be added as a club qualification.
